WHAT IS THE MEANING OF "COMUNA"?
"Comuna" is derived from Latin, and in many latin-speaking countries refers to small towns, rural villages or distinct communities where deep connections are formed amongst common people living together. We know that it is in these tight-knit communities where cultural identities are created, preserved and shared with others to tell a deeper story of people and place over time. It's from the universal human connection towards a sense of community that the mission of Comuna Travel is inspired by.

WHAT ARE COMUNA GROUP TRIPS LIKE?
We create highly immersive, sustainable and creative cultural experiences to Cuba, Mexico, Romania and soon Turkey. Our small group trips are tailored towards fostering deep human connections between our travellers and the locals we collaborate with, as well as building empathy and exchanges across cultures. We collaborate with inspiring locals in the destinations that we travel to and co-create experiences around the inspiring work they’re doing. Our journeys collaborate with local creatives, entrepreneurs, artisans, musicians, guides, farmers, hosts, and anyone else doing amazing and impactful things through their work. This not only provides our travellers with a very unique and authentic way to experience the local culture, but it also allows us as a company to control where and how our tourism dollars are invested. Making sure that we champion the local economic, social, and cultural development of the places that we travel to is paramount to our ethos on travel.
HOW MANY PEOPLE TRAVEL TOGETHER ON A GROUP TRIP?
Our small group journeys are never more than 8 people per trip so that we can maintain an intimate and flexible travel experience for our like-minded travellers while also allowing our impact to be minimal on the local communities that welcome us. Our trips are tailored towards fostering deep human connections between our travellers and the locals we work with. We create an inclusive and intimate environment to allow everyone to enjoy the experiences created for the journey together.

WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED IN A COMUNA GROUP TRIP?
COMUNA TRAVEL TRIPS DO NOT INCLUDE:
Fees into and out of the country
Most meals and alcohol unless noted in your itinerary that it will be provided.
HOW DO I RESERVE A SPOT?
In order to reserve your spot, we require a non-refundable 40% deposit, which goes towards the total cost of your trip. Full payment for the trip (the remaining balance) is due 45 days before departure. If you’re booking within 45 days of departure, then the full trip amount is due at the time of booking.
Click the BOOK NOW button in the main nav and select the trip you would like to reserve your spot on. In the Payment Options, select “Pay Trip Deposit” and complete your checkout. If you’re having any difficulty or prefer to pay through an alternative like a wire or bank transfer, email us at email@example.com and we’ll provide more guidance.
WHAT IF I NEED TO CANCEL?
We’ll be bummed if you can’t make it, but understand that sometimes life can throw curveballs into travel plans. Below is our cancellation policy.
If cancellation is made more than 45 days prior to trip departure:
The deposit payment is held by Comuna Travel
If cancellation is made less than 45 days prior to trip departure:
100% of total booking cost, inclusive of deposit, is held by Comuna Travel
WHAT TRAVEL DOCUMENTS DO I NEED FOR COMUNA TRIPS?
PASSPORT: A valid passport is mandatory for all international travel. It is your responsibility as a traveller to make sure that your passport is up to date ahead of departure. As a general rule, passports should have at least 6 months of validity when traveling internationally. Most countries will not permit a traveler to enter their country unless the passport is set to expire at least 6 months after the final day of travel.
TRAVEL INSURANCE: Comuna Travel has a strict policy that requires all of our travellers to provide us with proof of medical travel insurance that covers at least $200,000 CAD prior to departure on all Comuna Travel trips. The travel insurance must cover personal injury, medical expenses, loss of or damage to luggage, flight cancellation and delays, repatriation expenses, and evacuation expenses. It is your responsibility as a traveller to obtain your own travel insurance, however we are happy to provide you with our recommendations if needed.
VISAS: Some countries require you to obtain a visa, depending on the passport you are travelling with, in order to be allowed into the country. It is your responsibility as a traveller to make sure that you have obtained the necessary visa (if applicable). It is also your responsibility to cover any fees associated with obtaining a travel visa. We will however, let you know at the time of booking whether or not you will require a visa for the destination that you are travelling to.
ENTRANCE & EXIT FEES: Some countries also require you to pay an entrance or exit fee. It is your responsibility as a traveller to cover any entrance or exit feed (if applicable). We will however, let you know prior to departure whether it will be required.

I’M BOOKED! WHAT’S NEXT?
Our founder will be reaching out to you personally to chat about your upcoming journey and answer any questions you might have. We’ll also be sending you a detailed welcome package that will include your daily itinerary, valuable information on the country you’ll be travelling to and resources to get you excited about the experience! We’ll have this package sent to you via email after we’ve received your full payment and at least a month prior to your trip. We’re thrilled that you’ve chosen to travel with us and can’t wait to meet in person!
